Drum roll… It’s Round Three of Last Brewer Standing 2024! We’re calling this round “Attack of the Clones.” Your objective is to clone a commercially produced beer and ideally, you should bring it in for comparison (you do not have to bring in enough of the commercial version to share) but at the last bring in a description of the beer.

Drum roll… It’s Round One of Last Brewer Standing 2024! Think Belgian and French styles for entry. Check your email for a link to the Sign-Up sheet. As a bonus, Mike Sell will take us on a narrated tour of the various styles during our tasting.

Wake up and smell the coffee. Cesar and Steven will discuss ways to incorporate coffee into your beer and will be sharing their latest stout in which they used a homemade cold brewed espresso concentrate. Scott will discuss his latest side-by-side experimenting with drop hopping. Bring beer to showcase!

Our first meeting of the new year! We will discuss the club outlook for 2024 and the events that are planned. We will go over the refined rules for our 2nd Annual Last Brewer Standing challenge, as well as the styles for the individual rounds. Come ready to dive into a new year of home brewing… and as always, bring your home brew to share and enjoy!

HOLIDAY PARTY
The WHO Holiday party is at Soul Brewing Co. (41 Wheeler Avenue in Pleasantville) on Monday 12/18 from 7-9:30. $30/person covers food and a couple of Soul beers.
Mike from Barrels and BBQ will be smoking meat, and we’ll have some sides as well. Bring homebrew or commercial beers to share. If you want to bring food, we suggest appetizers or desserts—you can also note this on the sign up page.
We will also be holding the final invitational round of Last Brewer Standing…so we’re looking forward to crowning a winner and celebrating a great year of WHO activities!

Monthly Meeting
Round 4 of the 2023 Last Brewer Standing challenge. This go around we featured German styles and Vlad took the day with his Helles Lager, earning the highest individual score of the four rounds.
And with this last open round of our challenge, Vlad, Mike K, Cesar & Steven, Scott, Brian & Dan, and Dave & Ed advance to the final round at our annual Christmas/Holiday party where we will crown this year’s Last Brewer Standing!

Fred and Mike came away with the top beer of the night, successfully bringing the trophy back to WHO!

Brew Day/Monthly Meeting
We have been invited by CLBC Experimental Brewer, Adam Calderone, to brew a batch on their pilot system. We are getting a pitch of Omega Yeast Labs’ Helio Gazer, which is their supercharged version of Cosmic Punch. We will be starting at 4 pm, but if you cannot arrive that early, that is fine. Since it’s our regular meeting date as well, feel free to bring some home brew to share!

Monthly Meeting
Adam Calderone of Captain Lawrence Brewing Company will be on hand to discuss brewing high gravity beers.
We will also be holding Round 1 of our Last Brewer Standing challenge. For this first round, participants will be brewing British or Irish styles. Attendees will also vote on the criteria for Round 2 of Last Brewer Standing.
Any homebrew you bring that is not for the challenge, will be shared in the showcase format after the Last Brewer Standing scoring.

Welcome to a new year of WHO! This month’s meeting is a week earlier than our regular fourth Monday.
Steven will talk about the club outlook for 2023 and events that are being planned. There will be some new ideas introduced. so stay tuned! We’re continuing the showcase format, so if you can say a couple of things about your homebrew that would be great!

Since many of us will be picking up purchases from our grain buy at this meeting, David Todd thought this would be a good opportunity to discuss ways to use up odds and ends from your grain bins or any random hops you may have when getting ready order fresh supplies.

Casey and Dave will be talking about their trip to Oktoberfest 2022. We’re expecting this to be nothing like the old-fashioned family vacation slide-show.
We will open the floor to nominations to open board positions. If you are interested in taking a more active role in club events, here’s your chance to step up or nominate someone.

In addition to the annual IPA tasting and judging, Mike Katz will begin a discussion on using carb stones, and we will be distributing smoked grain to expressed interest at the July meeting.

Scott and Steven will discuss the use of Thiolized yeast strains and how mash hopping with a strain such as Omega Yeast Lab’s Cosmic Punch can release high levels of tropical aromas. We will sample their independent first efforts which used different hops. And of course, please bring your own home brew to showcase!

This will be a hybrid meeting: We’re back at CLBC for in-person and we will have Zoom for those who choose to attend remotely.
Topics will include: the 2021 Brewnity Picnic at Croton Point Park on July 17th; a picnic committee will be formed at the meeting; there will be a sensory panel where we will taste a base beer and the same beer with additional calcium and with additional sulfate; lastly, there be a demonstration of the Blichmann quick carb. Hopefully we’ll have plenty of homebrew to share.

We’re back at CLBC for an in-person meeting outdoors.
The main topic will be all-in-one brewing systems. We have assembled a panel of four brewers who will walk through their systems and answer questions on the whys and what-fors about how they chose their systems, what they like, etc.

Monthly Meeting / IPA SMACK DOWN
The mid-year event you’ve been waiting for—the IPA smack down versus Northern Westchester. They are bringing the trophy they won 2 years ago, and surely bringing some good beer to defend it. If you have an entry, we request either two 12 oz bottles, or one 16oz or larger bottle. Kegged entries are acceptable. Check in until 7:15pm. Absolutely no entries accepted after 7:15. Please let us know which category your IPA falls into:
